I'd like to strongly object to the removal of this package from Debian.

As per the Debian social contract: "4. Our priorities are our users and free
software. We will be guided by the needs of our users and the free software
community. *We will place their interests first in our priorities*".

It is my understanding that the needs of our users was the main reason that
Charles' getmail was replaced by the getmail6 fork. What has changed since then?

Also, per the same social contract: "4. Integrity of the Author's Source Code
(...) The license may require derived works to carry a different name or version
number from the original software. (This is a compromise. The Debian group
encourages all authors not to restrict any files, source or binary, from being
modified)".

As far as I am aware, the license under which getmail is distributed does not
have this requirement other than that "(y)ou must cause the the modified files
to carry prominent notices stating that you changed the files and the date of
any change."

I believe getmail6 sufficiently meets this requirement. If it doesn't, please
point out how and where it doesn't so this can be addressed.
