This is more tricky that it looks. debvm-run uses the label "debvm" to locate the root filesystem. If I were to change the label here, debvm-run would have to guess it somehow. That seems non-trivial and prone for errors. The label being debvm is part of interface. At this time, I do not quite see why you would want to change the label and I also do not quite see how debvm-run would communicate the location of the rootfs to the kernel unless using the label.
