I'm not sure if it's documented anywhere, but release team policy has
been that hardware enablement is allowed in stable updates.  (If that
involves changes to a driver we already enabled, the benefit has to be
weighed against the risk of regressions for previously supported
devices.  But I don't that's being proposed here.)

Even though there won't have been broad testing of the Debian kernel
configuration on the Mediatek SoCs, this can't possibly be a regression
for them.
