Both gives same error (what I shared earlier). I was just suggesting

You could give a try with the riseup-vpn package backported on bookworm. It uses
QT6 but it does work.
But it was working fine on bookworm and I want to be on trixie for some
time and see how stable it is.

Can you confirm that this is no ISP issue for you and you are able to hit
riseup-vpn endpoints just fine?
no ISP issue as I can get riseup-vpn working on the laptop when
tethering from same connection.
Seems it is hung on stopping the firewall. You might also want to run it with:
$ SKIP_MOTD=1 riseup-vpn
If I leave the app running for a long time, it finally starts. But I
have not yet got connection to succeed (that could be an issue with
connection breaking frequently in mobian trixie - som modem/driver issue).
to avoid waiting for MOTD end point to respond. Is OpenVPN working fine?
I will test with a plain openvpn connection.
It spawns 2 goroutines to get gateways etc but I don't see even that in the log

May be upstream has not tested with qt6 yet?
it works with qt6. maybe something to do with ongoing transition? However this
seems to happen just on mobile but works on desktop for you so I am unsure.
all this points to some different setting on plasma mobile, but I wonder
such style/theme settings can break an app like this.
