Hi,

I've actually checked and the Perl script /usr/sbin/upgrade-system in a
bookworm installation) does not try to use deborphan. It uses, for what
I can see, "apt-get --purge --simulate autoremove") to find the orphan
packages.

So I think that only dropping the Recommends is fine and there is no
need to do anything else. But I'm not familiar with the package though.
