I am on Debian sid. If I open Dia, it loses focus and I have to press
alt+tab to make its window active. If I change /org/gnome/desktop/wm/
preferences/focus-new-windows dconf setting from 'smart' to 'strict' dia
opens fine. But then Evince will lose focus upon opening. So I prefer to
keep this setting as 'smart'.
I tried to reproduce the bug, but failed, or at least I have a slightly
different bug:
- in a fresh Debian Gnome (Wayland) VM, I open a terminal window (not
maximized)
- I run `dia`
- the Dia window opens and has focus, but is maximized behind the
terminal window
- since Dia has focus, Alt-Tab sets focus back to the terminal window
and Alt-Tab again sets focus to the Dia window, but this time puts it
also in the foreground.
Is it the behavior you observe?
Moreover, I don't have a dconf setting named
/org/gnome/desktop/wm/preferences/focus-new-windows
. Can you provide more details about your environment (Wayland or X11,
which version of Gnome exactly, ...)?
Philippe.
