I have also added an autopkgtest, similar to with the recent uid-gid patch. I think this is worth fixing sooner or later, as it could soon break services expecting the user to be present. I notice your packages are designated LowNMU and hope you don't mind if I propose an update with my patch, that could be superseded if upstream come up with an alternative implementation?
