It appears that OpenSuse has just skipped the failing test to unblock their tumbleweed snapshot:

I don't have a view on whether it's appropriate for Debian to package fixes like that, before an upstream release incorporating the fix. I also see at least one previous PCRE2 release which has had similar problems with MariaDB. Either this reflects poorly on us (PCRE2) making bugfixes or improvements which change behaviour; or it shows that MariaDB's tests are a little brittle. In any case, I do apologise to the Debian MariaDB maintainers for this churn.
