A belated thanks to everyone involved in this bugreport.

I accidentally missed to adopt the NMU and fixed it properly by
patching away the upstream-declared build flag which, I agree with Paul,
is wrong to use in Debian context.

Do you agree that doctests should be disabled by default by our tooling 
(even if different)?
