vmfs6-tools was a modified and forked version of vmfs-tools which was used to access VMFS6 formatted drives / partitions from VMware systems. It relied on forks and diffs provided against vmfs-tools. I was the one who provided the patched vmfs6-tools repository alongside vmfs-tools which has not seen code changes in many years.
Both upstream vmfs-tools and my 'forked' version which included VMFS6 compatibility are unmaintained and do not build or compile against fuse3.
Since both myself (maintainer of vmfs6-tools and the person that forked vmfs-tools to provide the vmfs6 compatibility layers and patches) are dead, the package is unlikely to get repaired or modified to work with libfuse3.
Additionally, I have archived the Github repository which I maintained as well, so there is no supported vmfs6-tools upstream.
Removal of vmfs6-tools will resolve #1084467 [1], which is one of a number of bugs that are blocking #1078610 [2].
(I am not in an authoritative position to have vmfs-tools removed, but I can declare vmfs6-tools dead and not maintained anymore.)
