Hi Sylvestre, Mo and other LLVM-folks,

There is work in progress to update llvmlite to llvm-21 - it needs the new upstream version plus some patches, as I've referred to in previous mails / bug reports.

https://salsa.debian.org/stuart/llvmlite/-/tree/tmp/llvm-21-support

There is likewise numba updated to use that llvmlite at

https://salsa.debian.org/science-team/numba/-/tree/debian/experimental

I'd be very happy to upload both llvmlite and numba to experimental as a starting point. My experiment on debusine with various rdeps looks promising so I think it's reasonable to do that.

Are you happy for me to do so?

For longer term maintenance, llvmlite and numba are so closely coupled packages that I wonder if they need to have the same maintainers. I wouldn't want to exclude the llvm maintainers from continuing to contribute to these packages as they definitely need your expertise. It's actually quite easy to enable by adding the additional mailing list to Uploaders and tweaking some permissions on salsa - there's a few packages across the Python and Science teams that have done this and it works well.

Are you happy for me to move llvmlite on salsa into the science-team with that setup? (or would you like to do it the opposite way around?)

thanks
Stuart
