Exponential backoff is an algorithm that uses feedback to multiplicatively decrease the rate of some process, in order to gradually find an acceptable rate. The retries exponentially increase and stop increasing when a certain threshold is met. This is v5 of the library, which uses a different Go import path (github.com/cenkalti/backoff/v5) and can coexist with v4. The v4 package is already in Debian as golang-github-cenkalti-backoff-v4-dev. This package has zero external dependencies. This package is needed as a dependency of golang-opentelemetry-otel (>= 1.43.0), which migrated from backoff/v4 to backoff/v5 in its OTLP exporters.
