from the man page:

> Options are case insensitive. Short options may be bundled. Long options
> require a double dash and may be abbreviated to uniqueness.

The last part means that --hook-d would also work and so would --ho but --h
would be ambiguous because there is --help.

I think this detail is easy to miss and that the documentation of
--hook-directory could mention --hook-dir as an alternative popular
abbreviation.
