I have started patching other packages to accommodate for the current behavior of pam. For example: https://salsa.debian.org/systemd-team/systemd/-/merge_requests/325 I would still like to avoid having to patch all kind of maintainer scripts with the --root argument, so it would still be very much appreciated that you have a look at my patch eventually.
