Where do you see stable-updates being documented as opt-in? It's enabled by default in new installs based on debian-installer. It's also listed as enabled in the sources.list for trixie shown in the release notes at https://www.debian.org/releases/trixie/release-notes/upgrading.en.html#adding-apt-internet-sources, with no indication of it being optional. noah
