Hi Paul

Sure, yesterday we released an update to the mariadb package that moves the
runtime directory from /run/mysqld to /run/mariadbd as part of a general goal
of moving MariaDB to
its own namespace. In order to maintain compatibility with MySQL, a symlink
from /run/mysqld to /run/mariadbd has been added to the mariadb-server-compat
package. However,
since cacti's tests depend on the mariadb-server package directly, they break
with php-mysql searching for /run/mysqld. Moving to test against
mariadb-server-compat fixes this
issue, and is still representative of what users would have due to "recommends:
default-mysql-server".

Ubuntu currently uses MySQL as the default for default-mysql-* packages, so for
the upcoming release 26.10 most packages will continue to match that. However,
for this release
I am also preparing an update to allow mysql-server and mariadb-server to be
co-installed. So once default-mysql-* goes away there, packages will be allowed
to depend against
either MariaDB or MySQL. The goal will then be to have packages depend on
whichever database their upstream recommends.

Sounds good, will do!
