Upgrading the texinfo.tex to that one from the texinfo repo does not solve the issue, meanwhile downgrading to that one from texinfo in Debian unstable does. I guess we have to go deep and find an issue in the texinfo.tex from savannah, provided the blitz++ document is syntactically OK (which I would assume for now).
here is my minimal texinfo file, which can't be compiled any more using a recent texinfo.tex file (younger than "2025-10-25.20"). This is the latest version I'm aware of. I guess later versions will work too, but currently I don't know better:
