Hello automake maintainer,

here is my minimal texinfo file, which can't be compiled any more using a recent texinfo.tex file (younger than "2025-10-25.20"). This is the latest version I'm aware of. I guess later versions will work too, but currently I don't know better:

\input texinfo @c -*-texinfo-*-
@setfilename blitz.info

@section Laplacian (@math{@nabla ^2}) operators

@bye

I've forwarded the issue to TeXInfo upstream and got a longer response [1]. It seems the decision to pull a texinfo.tex file from the git repo wasn't a good one.

Anyway: the issue is in the automake package, I leave it up to you either to roll forward the texinfo.tex or backwards.
