Those are all bitmap fonts; if you want to use them, make sure bitmap fonts are enabled (dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig). I don't understand why these fonts disappeared though; it should inherit the old configuration answers. Perhaps it's just that these fonts were in some directory other than /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/*, in which case the new fontconfig's more effective mechanism for identifying bitmap fonts would exclude them while the old mechanism would include them. -keith
