I have a partial solution, and maybe even the complete solution.

After discussing the problem on upstream bug tracker at
http://bugs.jpilot.org/1729 I discovered that plucker-build do not find
the default image parser any more.

My current solution is to add:
image_parser = pil2
in the ~/.pluckerrc file

You can also try the other image parser imagemagick and netpbm2.
Have a look in /etc/pluckerrc for a sample ~/.pluckerrc file with
comments.

I had already found the /etc/pluckerrc, and edited the image_parser, but that didn't work. However, while looking through the changelog for Plucker, see that one of the fixes they'd put in a while back was to make a .pluckerrc file in the home directory of each user.

I didn't have a .pluckerrc file in my home directory. I created one, and now Plucker runs, even if I turn off --noimages.

So it may be that the fix is to create a .pluckerrc file in the home directory of the user, and make certain that the defaults are correct?

Thanks *very* much for taking care of this for me. FYI, the file I've created can be downloaded from http://www.kosherwinereview.com/palm.html .
