I rebooted the computer several times since installing the new version of xkb-data and the problem persisted. Only when I implemented the workarounds detailed in the original report did the extra key start to work again. It's a bit strange that I am the only one with this problem... I've read in another bug report that the pc105 definition is now upstream's default -- maybe this fact is related (e.g "pc" should now be equal to what was formerly "pc(pc105)" but isn't here for some reason)?
