BTW, during this latest cycle, I tried "touch /etc/modprobe.conf" to see if that would be updated by alsaconf if the file simply existed. It was not, and the file does not exist now, but _this_ time the file /etc/modprobe.d/sound was created with the correct settings in it. I will forward the results of the next reboot, which I'll do shortly, if the status was retained this time.
