Original bug report: http://bugs.debian.org/374640 This freeze problem happens with not only SCIM package as originally reported but also when using UIM package to input Japanese. Kenshi Muto(a Japanese DD) reported to me over Japanese mail that this happens with UIM and I confirmed it. Under UIM, this problem does not happen with other Gnome applications, firefox, gnome-terminal, OOo, GNOME search tool, too. Considering this to be rather basic file, it requires attention to be fixed. Current work around is to use uim or scim as immodule right after gedit opens by switching input method using right click text imput area. Thanks.
