Where do you see this?  I've downloaded the source package, and
debian/postinst reads:

PV=2.4
PYTHON=python$PV

The Depends: match, with an explicit dep on python2.4.

Neither of these appear to be RC here

>  - remove the *.pyo files.

And this I can't confirm at all, there are no .pyo files in the package.
