Lintian produces the following warnings when building thttpd and
thttpd-util:

W: thttpd source: ancient-standards-version 3.5.6 (current is 3.7.2)
W: thttpd-util: manpage-has-errors-from-man usr/share/man/man8/ssi.8.gz
121: warning: can't find numbered character 169
W: thttpd-util: manpage-has-errors-from-man
usr/share/man/man8/redirect.8.gz 65: warning: can't find numbered
character 169
W: thttpd-util: manpage-has-errors-from-man
usr/share/man/man8/syslogtocern.8.gz 24: warning: can't find numbered
character 169
W: thttpd-util: manpage-has-errors-from-man
usr/share/man/man1/makeweb.1.gz 19: warning: can't find numbered
character 169
W: thttpd: manpage-has-errors-from-man usr/share/man/man8/thttpd.8.gz
576: warning: can't find numbered character 169

The incorrect character code 169 is in the copyright clause. Most other
manual pages seem to get along with just the old ASCII approximation (C)
but there's a troff code \(co which appears to work, too (found it in
the biof(1) manual page).

(The standards-version problem I assume you are already aware of ...)

If this were a real .signature, it would suck less. Well, maybe not.
