That tiff was generated by gscan2pdf. Thus I don't think this bug is
closed...
gscan2pdf uses tiffcp internally. I committed a patch that makes sure
that you get the error message as a dialog.
I agree that it isn't ideal, as the PDF is not written, but at least
now you know an error has occurred and can select a different
compression method.
