yes, you can still reach me this way - it's just that I have a very bad connection on weekdays, and not much time anyway. > this is perhaps irrelevant with missing conffiles bug but > is because fmtutil generates fmt files in a bit different > directory ($engine subdir) around teTeX to TeXLive transition. That's a valid point. We don't know the version of tex-common at the time the bug was reported, and there actually were versions of tex-common in testing which were incompatible with the still-existing tetex packages. And it's the combination of tex-common and newer texlive (AFAIR) which switches to the engine-specific subdirectories. > And, as you pointed out, "fmtutil --byfmt latex" didn't fix > anything and the problem looked as if it was fixed perhaps > because texlive package was upgraded (or tetex-bin was removed?) > and incomptibility was disappeared, I believe. (I don't know > when fmtutil changed its behavior precisely.) If I'm not mistaken, that was with the release of texlive 2007. I think all that needs to be done is to fix the dependencies of ptex-bin and ptex-base. Regards, Frank -- Frank Küster Single Molecule Spectroscopy, Protein Folding @ Inst. f. Biochemie, Univ.
