Do you still encounter this issue with recent versions of libsane (the
one in testing or unstable) ?

If yes, I'd be interested in the sanei_scsi debug log that you can
obtain with

 SANE_DEBUG_SANEI_SCSI=255 scanimage > /dev/null 2> sanei.log

(gzip it if needed, it can be large)

Also, did you try the BusLogic workaround exposed in the sane-scsi
manpage ? It's not for your model of SCSI card but maybe it applies to
your model too ?
