Package: amavisd-new
Version: 1:2.4.2-6.1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

The default configuration of amavisd-new saves spams and virusses in the
quarantine dir. On any reasonably used system this results in thousands
of messages per day being saved to that dir. Because its not
automatically cleaned, even lightly loaded systems will over time get a
dir with many entries.

Amavisd-new can get very slow when that dir gets large. It has an option to
hash the quarantine dir with one level of subdirs making the problem 60x
smaller.

I suggest to enable this functionality in the default configuration
aswell:
$quarantine_subdir_levels = 1;

It doesn't seem to have any drawback to doing it, so if we can get a
better performance, why not? If you disagree I suggest to at least put
that option commented out in the config, so it will be easily noticed by
people configuring amavisd-new.

thanks,
Thijs
