I think you do a great job and I'm well aware that maintaining one of the most essential tools of Debian is a complex and time consuming matter. I'm really sorry that you read it as rant! I will try to improve my wording next time and avoid expressions like "lack of time". What I wanted to express was the fact that I tried, failed and would appreciate the help or guidance of the maintainers. Noone made a comment on the bug for more than 4 years, so I thought it was simply forgotten. I'm glad to hear it's not the case and feel sorry for that assumption. > If there were a well-tested and sensible fix, with a clear explanation > of what the bug was and how the patch corrects it, which hadn't been > merged, then you might well wonder whether the maintainers were > properly performing their most critical and un-delegateable role, > which is to be gatekeeper. But that's not the case here. I'm still working on providing that fix. If you would accept it still. > (I took a look at this myself in a spare moment a month or two ago and > decided I also "lacked time" - which is just a way of saying that I > felt other things I could spend my time on were more important.) I can totally understand that. Everyone can. > It is very rude to email bug reports to rant about how terrible it is > that your bug hasn't been investigated. As stated above, this was never my intention! I hope you accept my apology. Best regards Manuel
