This looks like some of the corruption I see. I also see stray bits of
chars left behind after paging.
I can pretty reliably reproduce the problem.
Which window manager and video driver do you use?
Metacity and fglrx. Unfortunately this is a T61p, so I don't have a lot
of choice on the video driver.
