Hi,

I'm in 'testing' and 0.15.20-2 hit today, wiping out my ability to FN +
F3 or F4 or F12 (that I tested) from working.

I decided to do some investigation:

I stopped powersaved and then did powersaved -v31 -f
/var/run/acpid.socket as you suggested to the original reporter.

I gathered the following relevant segment from the syslog when doing FN + F3

Apr 19 19:47:50 localhost powersaved[4173]: DIAG
(handleHWEventRequest:158) ACPI Event: 'ibm/hotkey HKEY 00000080 00001003'
Apr 19 19:47:50 localhost powersaved[4173]: Debug
(handleHWEventRequest:170) type: ibm/hotkey, dev_name: HKEY, port:
00000080, count: 00001003
Apr 19 19:47:50 localhost powersaved[4173]: DIAG
(handleHWEventRequest:241) unknown HW event, using [other]. type
'ibm/hotkey' dev_name 'HKEY' port '00000080' count '00001003'
Apr 19 19:47:50 localhost powersaved[4173]: Info (registerEvent:48)
registering event no.'5'
Apr 19 19:47:50 localhost powersaved[4173]: WARNING (continueEvent:250)
Could not execute program /usr/lib/powersave/scripts for event other: No
such file or directory
Apr 19 19:47:50 localhost powersaved[4173]: Info (checkScriptReturn:168)
SCRIPT returned: Name: 'hotkey_handler', Return value: 1, Comment:
'Cannot access or execute: hotkey_handler'
Apr 19 19:47:50 localhost powersaved[4173]: Info (checkScriptReturn:209)
SCRIPT other failed to execute

It might be worth pointing out that I allowed dpkg to replace all the
scripts I'd previously modified, then I went back through them and made
my customisations based on my previous configuration files which dpkg saves.

Pertinently, the default EVENT_OTHER setting in the events file differed
from how it was before (EVENT_OTHER="hotkey_handler") so I changed it

The hotkey_handler script (and thinkpad_acpi_events), is no longer shipped by powersaved. So it's clear that setting EVENT_OTHER="hotkey_handler" will not work.

As said in the previous mail, the right fix will be to remap the button presses, using hal, so you can set EVENT_BUTTON_POWER, EVENT_BUTTON_SLEEP, etc.

Cheers,
Michael
