Yes, I know (as that is how we worked around the issue in D-I).

OK. So the current fix is basically unrelated to the change that was applied 
upstream and is also not really a targeted fix or revert. It's more a 
fairly general workaround.
Thanks, that's all I wanted to know.

I have just verified that the new cairo works correctly without the 
workaround that was implemented in D-I so we could in theory now revert 
that (and it also means that this upload could have happened earlier and 
saved us the trouble of doing the workaround in D-I, but that's minor).


Next question: do you have any info what the status of this issue is 
upstream? There seem to have been no further updates to the upstream BR.
I understand that you tried to contact the person who committed the upstream 
change. Did you get any reaction from him? If not, would sending a reminder 
be useful?
