Hello, I use the expand fileter to play videos always at the aspect ratio of my screen. Then if the video is widescreen and has subtitles they can be displayed in the empty space. However, most vo drivers do not clear the area that is not occupied by the video which makes new subtitles draw over the old ones. The only driver that works for me and clears the area is gl. The drivers that do not clear it are xv, x11, gl2, and sdl. No other driver works on my system.
