Greetings, turns out this is nontrivial to fix.
My patch does not help, and fetchmail does not support servers (such as Dovecot v1.1) that do not send just the untagged * n EXPUNGE line anyways, but not * n EXISTS. But even with Cyrus that updates the * n EXISTS, Trent's desired message does not appear. There must be some more logic going on, spread across driver.c and imap.c, that prevents this from appearing. I have to understand all the details first, and there is more important stuff on the desk to address first. Beyond that, I doubt the fix will be small enough to appear in a 6.3.X release.
