Package: mime-support Version: 3.34-1 Severity: wishlist Hi,
update-mime should warn users when a package as read from /etc/mailcap.order does not match any package which register mime entries. For example, I prefer xine to display video/* files. So I added the following line to mailcap.order: xine:*/* then I ran update-mime and... nothing happend! It took me some time to find reason of this: there's no such package as xine, the xine program is provided by xine-ui. I had a similar situation with gvim, where the package name is vim-gtk, not gvim. I think it would be very nice if update-mime would warn about this.
