I have encountered, if it comes to errors it is better to set it
directly to "en_US" since for debuging the german messages sounds
sometimes very strange (the french ones again more courious)

Do you realy need all this lines?

It should be "de_DE.UTF-8"

This is one of my selfcoded tools, which allow me to switch easyly
between locales dynamicaly (On-The-Fly) since I realy hate, to edit my
~/.bashrc or my ~/.xession from a script where, if an error occurs, the
whole system can hang or make strange things...
So I setup ~/.tdlocale and if it fails (e.g. no diskspace) I will run
under "C" or "en_US" as defined in /etc/default/locale.
It just works even under fvwm... :-)
