I just can't believe that. Are you sure you did update _only_ that
package? Can you show us you /var/log/dpkg.log ?

acpi-support has no influnce on the state of a kernel driver
during the initial boot except maybe through a modprobe.d file but
nothing changed there between those 2 versions IIRC.
