I could not reproduce it here, using the same version of Paje, but newer versions of GNUstep libraries (base 0.18, gui+back 0.16). The only place I found the "invalid type" string in the source of Paje+gnustep is in gnustep's "art" backend. Can you try with a newer version of art or with another backend (xlib or cairo), and see if the problem goes away?
