I can definitely reproduce this. I think Thunar has been doing this since I updated from Lenny to Squeeze. I see both Word documents (.doc) and Ogg Vorbis files (.ogg) misdetected as "plain text document" and "Ogg Theora video", respectively. Those may be separate issues; I don't know.
