I think that whenever something runs update-rc.d, I get a bunch,
not one, of those warning messages.   I also think those messages are
causing apt-get a noticeable delay when updating a package that
calls update-rc.d.

  Thinking about it, I am not sure I understood your reply.
What do you think might be a problem?  What you are not sure why I
want to do it?
