I had a look at the message that failed to be retrieved in my last update.
The message had the following id:
Message-ID: <1270580810.28785.4.ca...@wookie>
and is message 11442 in the /var/spool/news/gmane/linux/scsi directory.
It appears that there was some conflict between the "checking for new
messages" function (set to every 5 minutes on my account settings) and
icedove retrieving the message.
