As is also seen in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=454684#25 this CTLX failure is an old known problem. In your case this happens when the driver is preparing for firmware loading and is sending a message to the card to go into firmware loading mode. But just sending this message already fails. I guess you get the same CTLX errors even without having any firmware to load?
