Can you comment about it on the mercurial BTS [0] ?  There, mercurial
devs can answer your questions about the details of the patch.

I tested the patches and as far as I can tell they fix the issue. When
you have a file open by another program, you can run hg update without
confusing it. I think that's what you were looking for.
