I suspect two different things to explain your issue.

First, a corrupted liquidwarrc file. Can you send it to me?

Second, a "strange" behaviour when you have liballegro4.1 and liballegro4a 
installed on the same machine. Indeed, I have reproduced a similar issue with
liballegro4.1 installed, an everything works well if there is only allegro4a 
installed.
Can you try to remove liballegro4.1 (I'm near sure that this package is 
installed
on your machine)
