UW-IMAP project is dead upstream - or rather the main developer was laid off and continued the project, commercially licensed under a different name.

Library part of the project (libc-client) cannot easily be gotten rid of, as it is used by e.g. PHP and Asterisk. But the daemons can - dovecot is my recommendation, and other alternatives exist too.

Question then, related specifically to this bugreport, is then:

Is this issue so severe that we should consider ripping out the daemons also from the stable release of Debian?

I think not - the original reporter of this bug describes it as occurring only on "rare occasions".

Others please provide your opinion on this.
