For me this bugreport only means that libhdf5-mpi-dev should be installed alongside with libmed[c]-dev... so our problem is due to this bug! However if we want to go further I believe that we could add libhdf5-mpi-dev to fix med support in gmsh. Once the bug #617729 is closed we can think of removing libhdf5-mpi-dev from Build-Depends.
