Hi Yves. I downgraded libcairo back to sid's version. >From my tests it seems it's working with a mouse theme, not with X's default pointer. Both in the 'whole desktop' and the 'active window' options.
Personally I suspect that it would've worked even if I kept the libcairo version I was using. I don't think it's supposed to work with the default pointer really. Shutter screenshot tool used to behave the same way. I'm not using it now but I think the Shutter devs added a workaroud by shipping the app with a mouse theme.
