That's a poor reason, unless you can think of actual bugs in debhelper compatibility levels. Joey takes that stuff pretty seriously. In the past, on this issue, my response was "why sacrifice sarge compatibility for no concrete benefit?" But sarge was a couple releases ago now, so.
