Only today I discovered that deja-dup switched to dconf (and in the migrations my settings - i.e. the exclude-list, but possibly everything - had not been completely migrated, I had to do that manually). I was also able to run a backup: simply clicking "backup", I get S3, but if in the dropdown menu I select my USB drive, I find it correctly configured (the destination folder) and I can backup just fine. What I cannot do at all is restoring, because in that dialog I cannot even switch from S3 to anything else. Notice that, in the preferences, if for instance I set "custom location" and close, when I reopen I still see it. It's only if I choose my external HD (_any_ of my external HDs) that when I reopen I see "S3" (and dconf-editor shows me that indeed the change is made, for instance, when reopening the "preferences" window, not just when starting deja-dup).
